Grey Fabric

Grey Fabric Inspection
Grey  fabric  inspection  is  the  process  of  identifying  weaving  faults  in  the  fabric  just  after  the  grey fabric production in the loom. The Main purpose of the Grey Folding Department is to inspect the grey fabric   for  weaving   defects   and   to   generate   quality reports   of   the   fabric inspected.   It   also prepares   the   fabric   for   delivery   to   the processing department as per the present requirement or demand. It stores the grey goods in the roll form, until they are issued to the processing. It also mends all the repairable defects prior to rolling & storage.

    Equipment
    1.  Inspection table
    2.  Fabric inspection machine
      Key Accessories
      Nipper, Pointer, Cutter, Comb etc.

      Grey fabric inspection machine

The   100%   grey   fabric   inspection   is   done   in   the   Almac   woven   fabric inspection machine with the following features:
      • Inspection table is laminated with adequate number of tube-lights provided beneath and above the glass with variable lighting arrangement.
      •  Push button controls are given on the drive box on the right hand side.
      • Cloth   can   run   in   FORWARD   as   well   as   in   REVERSE   direction instantaneously.
      • Fabric runs face in/face out
      •   Special jogging or inching device is provided to stop the machine at the right location of the defect.
      • Soft start and instantaneous stoppage of fabric.
      • Automatic stop arrangement to stop the machine at the end of the fabric piece.
      •   Bow bar has been provided in the batching device to open out the creases in the fabric.

      Fabric inspection
      • There are two such machines which are used for the inspection of the grey fabric. After the inspection has been done the grey fabric is now wound on to A-frames from doff rolls by the help of the batching machines done   for   easy   transportation   of   the   fabric   roll   in   the processing unit.
      • There are three batching machines in the grey folding department. The fabric roll on the A-frame is then passed on to the processing unit.
      Weaving Defects

The   grey   fabric   inspection   takes   place   mainly   to   check   the   following weaving defects: In the inspection table the operator finds out faults in the fabric and analyses their intensity by visual inspection. Some of the common weaving faults are:

      1.  Stop mark
      2.  Pick faults, e.g.-miss pick and double pick.
      3.  Wrong density /drawing
      4.  Pattern or design break
      5.  Selvedge faults, e.g.-lashing in, cut selvedge.
      6.  Oil stain.
      7.  Crack, hole
      8.  Missing ends
      9.  Slubs.

      Acceptance of fabric:
      • Any piece of fabric with the rating of total 36 points faults per 100 linear meters is an l lowed to pass as ‘A’ grade fabric. 36 -50 is the point range for ‘B’ grade fabric.
      • Any piece having more than 50 points is graded as ‘C’ which is rejected.
      • A  minimum  of  20  meter  ‘A’  grade  fabric  is  allowed  to  pass  with  other  long  pieces.  Pieces less than 20 meter is recorded as cut pieces.
      Rejection of fabric
Any area of the fabric that contains –
      • Objectionable  (too  frequent)  presence  of  weaving  faults  like  stop/starting  mark  and  pick faults.
      • Oil or grease spot.
      • Crack/holes, floats and warp end miss etc. are cut to a separate pieces and recorded as rejected.
